The Opportunity

The Nicholson School of Communication and Media (NSCM) in the College of Sciences at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a full time, nine-month, tenure-earning assistant professor. This position is anticipated to begin in August 2023.

The successful candidate will contribute to the mission of the Games and Interactive Media (GaIM) program through teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, doing research/creative work, providing services related to games and interactive media, and participating in school and university services, including committee work. Based on the current workload policy, the teaching load is two courses per semester in support of the Digital Media B.A. (with specializations in Web and Game Design) and the Digital Media M.A. 

GaIM is a large and growing top-15 ranked game design program (Princeton Review).  We are looking for faculty who can teach and do research/creative work related to games and interactive media topics, including but not limited to game, web, XR, design, and storytelling. GaIM is part is part of the Nicholson School of Communication and Media which has other programs in the areas of Communication, Film and Mass Media, and industry game development within the Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy (FIEA) and is located at UCF Downtown campus right across the street from Electronic Arts Tiburon. Minimum Qualifications:

A terminal degree in an appropriate discipline or a related field from an accredited institution is required by the start of employment.  Teaching experience of some kind (e.g., workshops, training, tutoring, classroom instruction) is required, as is expertise in interactive narrative and/or experience design.  Shows ability to work with and lead others and a demonstrated record of teamwork are also necessary.  Candidates should show evidence of creative work or a research agenda that could grow into national and international prominence.

Preferred Qualifications:

A fundable research/creative work agenda.  A flexible skill or knowledge set related to games and interactive media is a plus.  Teaching experience at the graduate level, and evidence of incorporating undergraduate and/or graduate students into research are preferred.
