The School of Visual Arts and Design (SVAD) at UCF is a place for seeing, thinking, hearing, touching, learning, and creating. The Opportunity

SVAD at UCF invites applicants for a nine-month, non-tenure earning instructor or lecturer position in Character Animation. The anticipated start date is August 8, 2023. SVAD seeks a candidate with a balance of technical and theoretical foundations. The successful candidate will play an important role in the SVAD Emerging Media BFA Character Animation track. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of the principles and elements of design as applied to animation and visual storytelling. Core areas will include a thorough understanding of 2-D and 3-D animation principles, 3-D modeling, layout, and rigging, along with a strong understanding of narrative storytelling and the moving image. The principal duties of this position include teaching a four-course load per semester and service at the UCF Orlando main campus and Research Park.

Minimum Qualifications

A non-terminal master’s degree (for instructor) or a terminal degree (for lecturer) in an appropriate discipline from an accredited institution by start of appointment. Appropriate disciplines include digital art, film, animation, the fine arts, or media-related discipline. Candidates must have at least one-year previous teaching experience in 3D animation at an accredited institution of higher education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference is given to candidates with at least one or more years of relevant professional industry production experience.

  • Additionally, teaching experience in one or more of the following software is helpful: ToonBoom Harmony or equivalent industry standard 2-D software, Autodesk Maya, Adobe Creative Cloud, Substance Painter, and/or Foundry NukeX.

  • A strong understanding of traditional and digital 3D animation and the production pipeline is encouraged.

  • Lastly, working knowledge of production development and design, storytelling, rendering and compositing, and understanding of foley and music to enhance visual language would be preferred.
