The School of Visual Arts and Design (SVAD) is a large, diverse unit that values interdisciplinary perspectives and experimental inquiry through making art.  SVAD is the largest school in the College of Arts and Humanities at the University of Central Florida (UCF) located in Orlando, Florida. The Opportunity

SVAD at UCF seeks an energetic practicing artist with an active professional record of creative studio work for a nine-month, non-tenure earning, lecturer position in studio foundations with an emphasis in drawing. The anticipated start date is August 8, 2023. The successful candidate’s teaching duties will focus on foundations courses with an emphasis on drawing, with opportunities for teaching in other areas.

The position requirements are teaching four courses per semester, active engagement in committee service, maintaining regular office hours, developing curriculum, participating in campus and community life and other collective initiatives. The successful candidate for this position will be passionate about advancing art foundations through course and curricular development, student mentorship and active scholarship.

With approximately 2,000 plus majors and minors, SVAD offers the following degrees: Architecture (B.Des.), Art (B.A. and BFA), Emerging Media (B.A., BFA and MFA) and Photography (B.S.). More information about the school and our offerings is available at: svad.cah.ucf.edu .

Minimum Qualifications

A terminal MFA degree in studio art from an accredited institution by start of appointment, evidence of college-level teaching in studio art, an active creative practice, and effective communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates should be able to design and deliver drawing and studio art foundation courses, demonstrate outstanding drawing skills with a strong grounding in formal design principles, creative problem solving, critical thinking, and critiquing skills, have evidence of excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to think and write critically about art, and lastly demonstrate strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

5.) Two course syllabi including assignments and specific course schedules.

6.) Contact information of three professional references.

7.) A single, multi-page PDF that includes 20 examples of personal work. 

8.) A single, multi-page PDF that includes 20 examples of student work with any information identifying the student removed.  All images of personal work should include title, medium, dimensions, and date. Student work should label assignment context.

9) Copy of official transcript.
