Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

Position Overview

Under the guidance of the Project Coordinator and Principal Investigator, the Research Assistant will contribute to tasks throughout the entire research process, including preparing recruitment materials, recruitment, data collection, and performing other varied support functions related to research activities.

Responsibilities:

Specific job tasks and responsibilities

  • Conduct recruitment and data collection by conducting interviews.
  • Manage audio data transcription.
  • Assist with preparing data for computer input, recording data in research database files and data spreadsheets, generating summary statistics of the data, and with writing and preparation of main study findings.
  • Assist with conducting qualitative analyses.
  • Manage and track documentation related to recruitment of research participants, and in organizing and synthesizing information related to the research process.
  • This position requires strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as excellent customer service and requires the ability to provide a high level of detail and organizational skills.
  • The Research Assistant will also attend appropriate training sessions and group meetings.
  • Willing to travel long distances as needed.
  • Contribute to other research group activities as needed.
  • Maintain cultural humility and continue development in cultural competency skills.

Qualifications:

High school graduation or GED. Minimum of one year experience in program specialty or a related field. Bachelor’s degree and/or special skills may be required based on departmental needs. Skills necessary generally will include: organizational skills, general office skills (i.e. typing, filing, phone skills), word processing/computer skills, and written and oral communication skills. Experience working with Native American tribal communities.
