Instructional Specialist I, Electrical Systems Technology

Class Description

Working under the guidance of a Coordinator, Technical Training, independently provides instruction focusing on residential, commercial and industrial wiring; basic construction skills; National Electric Code; blueprints and schematics; motor controls; electronics; automation components; instrumentation; troubleshooting; and related systems/subjects.

Compensation within the posted range is determined by a candidate's education level and/or years of experience in the field.  Generally, employees are hired in the lower third of the scale

Minimum Requirements

High school diploma/GED and five (5) years’ experience in residential, commercial, or industrial electrical fields.  Journey-person electrician’s license required; master license preferred.  Associate degree and/or completion of an approved apprenticeship program preferred. Teaching/training experience in commercial/industrial/facility maintenance preferred.  Current credentials related to any of the following areas preferred:  commercial/industrial/facility maintenance, contracting, safety, construction, environmental, and controls. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, especially Word, Excel and Power Point.

Class Specific Essential Duties

  1. Seek continuous improvement in teaching (classroom and on-line) methodology and student-centered learning.
  2. Stay current in Electrical Systems Technology discipline.
  3. Maintain scheduled availability to students.
  4. Develop an individual professional development plan.
  5. Assist other faculty in developing, managing courses, and curricula in Continuing Education.
  6. Assist in student recruitment and selection.
  7. Maintain laboratories, supplies and equipment.
  8. Remain knowledgeable about the College, its structure, culture, policies, practices, and Electrical Systems Technology.
  9. Serve as an advocate for the College and its students, as required.

Position Specific Essential Duties

  1. Develop curriculum that meets industry requirements for Electrical Systems Technology.
  2. Teach assigned courses, utilizing strategies and activities to promote student engagement and enhanced student learning at a variety of locations.
  3. Follow established rules and guidelines of Electrical Systems Technology certifying boards and the college.
  4. Maintain certification, remain current and maintain accreditation in Electrical Systems Technology (including electrical license). 
  5. Maintain affiliations and develop new affiliations for student placement.
  6. Participate in administrative duties as required.
