Summary

Texas Children's Hospital Center for Vaccine Development at Baylor College of Medicine ( https://www.bcm.edu/departments/pediatrics/sections-divisions-centers/tropical-medicine/research/vaccine-development ) is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow with a strong background in molecular biology to support the development of new RNA vaccines and immunotherapeutics for parasitic infections. Our group aims to pave a way for improved global vaccine equity, and we need your help to assure that low and mid-income countries can also benefit from the latest healthcare innovations. The successful candidate will be team-oriented with a passion for engineering biology, able to independently design and execute experiments, mastering multiple applicable skills such as designing new plasmids, cloning using various techniques, nucleic acid purification, transfecting and maintaining cell cultures.

Job Duties

  • Plans, directs and conducts experiments to develop improved RNA products.
    • Designs and prepares plasmids for in vitro transcription of antigen mRNAs.
    • Transcribes, caps and purifies mRNA products.
    • Performs in vitro/in vivo studies to demonstrate efficacy.
    • Evaluates, analyzes and presents data.
  • Establishes new RNA protocols and procedures.
  • Participates in project meetings, and actively discuss with international collaborators to improve their RNA programs

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree in molecular biology, cell biology, immunology, virology or a related discipline.
  • Experience may not be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • >4 years of hands-on laboratory experience and a track record of quality publications.
  • Experience in DNA cloning approaches, such as restriction cloning, Gibson assembly, Golden Gate cloning, etc.
  • Basic Cell culture experience.
  • Experience with DNA/RNA purification.
  • Knowledge of other genetic engineering and genomics approaches such as CRISPR, High throughput sequencing, PCR, qPCR, etc.
  • Excellent organization, communication and critical thinking skills, the ability to work both independently and in a team-based environment.
  • Work independently and consult the literature to guide scientific efforts and document research efforts in a laboratory notebook.
