Summary

Health Information Technology & Services (HITS) plays an important role in the success of Michigan Medicine by providing clinicians, educators, researchers, students, and staff with technology-related information, products, services, and excellent support. HITS also provides institutional expertise related to IT strategy, security, infrastructure, and resource management.

The Manager of HITS Storage and FileSystem Services will assist with strategic planning and lead the management of all enterprise Storage and FileSystem hosting technology infrastructure, and associated infrastructure software services to support Michigan Medicine’s mission. This position will report to and assist the Director, Enterprise Hosting & Infrastructure Services (EHIS) with planning, developing, and recommending short- and long-range information technology goals and objectives related to these services.

Responsibilities*

  • Manages the operational and life-cycle management aspects of the Storage and FileSystem services.  
  • Manages day-to-day activities of the team, which includes assigning and prioritizing tasks / projects, managing and measuring performance through regular performance evaluations, and making hiring decisions. Ensures that the department is staffed with the needed roles and skills. 
  • Develops, implements, and enforces enterprise IT standards and procedures, including architecture, security, and continuity of operations. 
  • Assist in planning, project management and implementation leadership – recognizing opportunities for automation, cost savings, and service quality improvement. 
  • Collaborates with the IT Directors, customers/stakeholders, and other Managers in IS/IT to define and deliver storage and file system technology services.  
  • Manages ongoing strategic vendor relationships, RFPs, purchases, and service contracts. 
  • Makes recommendations for the improvement and growth of IT storage and file system solutions for clinical, research, educational and business needs with benchmark data. 
  • Manages annual operating and capital expenditure budget development and ensure adherence to approved operating and capital budgets. 
  • Assist with IT Modernization program and guide with technological understanding of cloud infrastructures, capabilities and security models, and engineer cloud-hosted storage solutions and integrations. 
  • Assist and provide technical consultation to application teams migrating to public cloud-based on a joint assessment of existing application technology and deployment model 
  • Represents the Technical Infrastructure unit in various working groups, steering committees, and governance bodies. 
  • Demonstrates hands on technical depth enabling direct oversight, problem-solving leadership and participation for complex infrastructure implementation, system upgrades and operational troubleshooting.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years professional experience.
  • Experience leading and managing large projects in an engineering team.
  • Demonstrated experiences with relevant infrastructure security standards and practices.
  • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple, complex projects.
  • Strong organizational, presentation and written communication skills are required
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills working with teams of individuals from diverse disciplines is required

Desired Qualifications*

  • 5+ years of experience leading an engineering team and projects in a health care environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in a 24/7, high availability, multi-site enterprise infrastructure solutions, including but not limited to storage.
  • Demonstrated experience with large scale physical and virtual storage infrastructure capabilities.
  • Experience with large complex storage deployment strategies including structured and unstructured data; synchronous/ asynchronous replication; virtualization; and other advance function services.
  • Broad knowledge of infrastructure technologies.
  • Experience with on-premises and multi-cloud storage services management. 
  • Solid understanding of the broader clinical, research and cultural environment of the health system and the University.

Work Locations

This position is being offered as a Hybrid position. There will be times when it will be appropriate for you to work from home. This position will be 40-60% remote work depending on the operational efforts, meetings, and project needs. May require working during non-business hours and on weekends.
