Responsibilities*

  • Inspect, repair and maintain NCRC Central Energy Plant electronic and pneumatic control systems for boiler and steam turbines, steam and water distribution flow pressure and temperature metering systems along with all components and auxiliary units of these systems.
  • Inspect, repair and maintain all NCRC Central Energy Plant electronic and pneumatic controls and all sensing devices and distributed control systems.
  • Inspect, repair and maintain all NCRC Central energy Plant testing and calibrations equipment. 
  • Disassemble units and repair or replace components tubing, couplings and electronic control devices, such as steam and water flow meters, combustion control meters, fuel and airflow controllers and transmitters, temperature receivers and recorders, damper controls and pressure reducing and water pressure regulator valves. 
  • Assemble and install meters, gauges, controllers and other instruments. 
  • Install and replace instrument tubing, valves, wiring and component parts in pneumatic equipment and electronic control systems. 
  • Coordinate the disassembly and repair of reducing valves and desuperheating controls and devices. 
  • Maintain records on malfunctions, repairs and maintenance. Enter data into a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). 
  • Maintain an inventory of parts. 
  • Monitor plant operations and react to electronic and pneumatic instrument and control malfunctions. 
  • Coordinate and participate in the inspection of electronic equipment function and manipulation of controls. 
  • Recommend the startup and shut down of plant equipment. 
  • Observe equipment function from control room and operating floor and perform periodic rounds of inspection. 
  • Inspect and adjust automatic or manual equipment control mechanisms. 
  • Coordinate and participate in the cleaning, inspection and routine maintenance of equipment and facilities including oiling, greasing and the repacking of leaking packing glands. 
  • Report unusual or emergency situations to the appropriate operating engineer and supervisor. 
  • Observe fire and safety precautions. 
  • Work independently or in a team of I&C Repairpersons and/or Skilled Trades Repairpersons to trouble-shoot and repair electronic controls and devices. 
  • Perform other assigned job functions as designated by Supervisor.

Required Qualifications*

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Two-year Associates degree or 4-year BS degree from an accredited electronic trade school or other combined electronic instrument repair education and work experience (i.e. Military Training, Electronic Service Technician including two (2) years of documented I&C work experience from previous job or employers). 
  • Considerable experience in maritime or powerhouse operation of boilers and turbines or satisfactory and reliable performance as an Instrument and Control Repairperson or equivalent level of education and experience. 
  • Considerable mechanical aptitude. 
  • Considerable knowledge of methods, equipment and materials used in boiler and turbine operation. 
  • Considerable knowledge of the operation and maintenance requirements of high pressure boilers, turbines and related equipment. 
  • Considerable knowledge of pressure, temperature and metering systems. 
  • Ability to maintain operation records and charts. 
  • Considerable knowledge of safety standards and procedures. 
  • Ability to exercise tact and discretion in relationships with subordinates and staff. 
  • Must be able to perform the full range of duties, with or without a reasonable accommodation, in the classification in an environment that has high levels of heat and noise. This includes, but is not limited to, operating valves, inspecting equipment, traversing under and over obstacles, ascending/descending ladders, and being able to transport up to 50lbs.
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, etc.), Google Suite (Mail, Sheets, etc.) and Internet Search. 
  • Considerable knowledge of calibration procedures for temperature and pressure instrumentation.
  • Act in accordance with the Facilities and Operations' guiding principles: respect, collaboration, proactive, solutions-based and responsibility to the environment.
  • Ability to obtain ISA Certified Control System Technician – Level 1 license within 12 months.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Ability to monitor and understand boiler and turbine operations and auxiliary systems. 
  • Basic knowledge of electrical control systems and motor controls. 
  • Basic knowledge of 480 volt, 220 volt, and 110 volt electrical systems. 
  • Work experience greater than two (2) years.

Work Schedule

This is a full time position; Mon-Fri 6:30am-3:00pm.
