The developmental biology laboratory of Dr. Jennifer Zallen at Sloan Kettering Institute studies how mechanical forces generate the diverse structures of the different tissues and organs in the body. We use biophysical approaches to analyze and manipulate forces in the embryo, live imaging and quantitative image analysis tools to visualize how forces influence cell behavior, and genetic and cell biological approaches in model organisms to identify the molecular machinery that controls these dynamic processes. The long-term goal of this research is to leverage this information to build, repair, and regenerate tissues to treat human disease.
