The Department of Medicine, Vascular Medicine Institute is seeking a Visiting Scholar.   The visiting scholar will carry out research to identify protein-protein interactions between the CLPX mitochondrial protein unfoldase and its protein partners in different mammalian cell types, with the goal of understanding the developmental stage and tissue-specific roles of CLPX in heme regulation.  The visiting scholar will also assist in research to identify the roles of TMEM14C, a mitochondrial protein with a role in porphyrin transport, in different mouse cell types.  To carry out these studies, the scholar will carry out mouse husbandry, tissue dissections, cell sorting, mammalian tissue culture, biochemical techniques (protein purification, metabolic labeling), microscopy, and assist with zebrafish husbandry.  The scholar will also take part in the general day to day maintenance of the lab and do their share of lab chores, ordering, tracking reagents and animals, and abide by all regulatory and safety protocols that govern the lab within the VMI and university.  The scholar will also write manuscripts and presentations of their work with the assistance of the lab PI, Dr. Yvette Yien.

 

Minimum Requirements - MD/Ph.D./D.Sc with 3-5 years of postdoctoral/research fellow experience.  Extensive knowledge in ­­­­­epigenetic regulation in cancer and human physiology, protein biochemistry, and genomics.
