Summary

The postdoctoral teaching and research fellow will conduct observational and database research on health outcomes for sexual and gender minorities, young adults or college students and youth in the state of Rhode Island. The fellow will devote 50% of their time to research under the direction of Samantha Rosenthal, PhD, MPH, and 50% of their time to teaching. The fellow will receive mentorship from Dr. Rosenthal and the Rhode Island IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (RI-INBRE) including a structured mentoring plan, career planning assistance, and opportunities to learn career skills such as writing grant proposals and managing a research center.

Essential Job Functions

  • Teaches undergraduate courses in the Public Health program, as assigned
  • Conducts observational research aligned with the NIH R15 grant
  • Mentors undergraduate students through their research projects
  • Collaborates with other faculty members within the Public Health program as well as the undergraduate research center in an effort to increase the number of undergraduate research at the university, to involve more faculty and students in undergraduate research and to disseminate the results of research
  • Collaborates with the Idea Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) in an effort to increase the participation of undergraduates in research and to disseminate the results through publication and presentation
  • Engages undergraduate students in research that is meaningful and that will further enhance their academic experience
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in health, biomedical sciences or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher education or other appropriate accreditation as determined by Johnson & Wales University (ABD will be considered.)
  • Experience working in research and teaching or in other related work
