ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF ACCOUNTING

Job Description

Responsible to provide excellence in teaching through the fulfillment of the mission and strategic goals of the School of Business.

The ideal start date for this position is August 15, 2023. Review of applications will begin on February 1, 2023. References will be checked upon scheduling interview.

 

What will I do in this position?
Essential job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    • Teach undergraduate courses in accounting from among such areas as intermediate accounting, individual and corporate taxation, cost accounting, introductory finance, analysis, accounting technology and information systems, and possibly other related areas
    • Teach other courses in the School of Business commensurate with departmental needs and individual expertise, including graduate courses
    • Advise students as assigned
    • Attend School of Business and full faculty meetings on a regular basis
    • Collaborate with other faculty in curriculum and course development, including course and program assessment, for undergraduate accounting and general business majors
    • Attend and participate in School of Business events as assigned
    • Participate in the ongoing work of University faculty by serving on committees, assisting with recruitment and retention of students, and the follow-up with alumni as needed or assigned
    • Abide by all University policies

Secondary job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Assist with the ongoing evaluation and development of the School of Business programs
  • Perform other duties as requested by supervisor

 

What will it take to succeed in this position?
Minimum Education and Experience:
    • Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with a Master’s degree in Business Administration or Accounting with significant professional experience required or related experience
    • Previous teaching, training, and / or coaching experience is preferred
    • Desire to engage in scholarly research including the integration of accounting and Christianity preferred
    • An active body of professional activity in the area of accounting and/or business preferred
    • Maintain a personal relationship with Jesus Christ; is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ; maintain a kind, Christ-like attitude in dealing with and ministering to people within and outside of Northwestern; and faithfully uphold and embrace Northwestern’s mission, doctrinal statement and Declaration of Christian Community

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to maintain an on-site (preferred), full time schedule in order to provide an open-door environment and foster community
  • Ability to integrate Christian worldview into classroom instruction
  • Ability to interact with a variety of individuals in a professional, courteous, and tactful manner
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate complex technical content clearly and concisely to undergraduate students
  • Ability to engage with and deliver information to a variety of learning styles
  • Strong organizational and problem solving skills
  • Ability to incorporate technology into the classroom, including, but not limited to, integration of Excel skills into classroom demonstrations and assignments
  • Ability to type 30 wpm and to efficiently and accurately use the computer to carry out job responsibilities
  • Ability to actively consult with a range of companies
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching and academic advising of undergraduate students, including the assessment of internships, integration of practicum and high-context learning experiences
  • Commitment to the growth and development of the department programs
  • Commitment to collaborating with other School of Business faculty in providing instructional excellence for students
  • Understanding of and agreement with Northwestern’s Declaration of Christian Community and Doctrinal Statement is essential
  • Ability to pass a background check upon hire and periodically throughout the course of employment
