Position Highlights The University of Arizona Department of Astronomy and Steward Observatory is seeking candidates for multiple Postdoctoral Scholar positions to join the Alien Earths (AE) Team in the study of the formation of exoplanetary systems. The Alien Earths team is part of the NASA Nexus for Exoplanet System Science (NExSS) Research Coordination Network, and is funded by the NASA/ICAR program. The focus of the AE team is to understand which nearby planetary systems are more likely to be habitable. This work integrates state-of-the-art constraints on planet formation (from astrophysical measurements and laboratory studies of primitive solar system material), observations and statistical studies of disks, exoplanets and populations of exoplanets, cutting-edge protoplanetary disk evolution and planet formation models, with coupled planetary interior-climate-ecosystem models for the evolution of Earth-like exoplanets.

We are seeking postdoctoral scholars to work with Professors Josh Eisner, Regis Ferriere, Jinyoung Serena Kim, Kaitlin Kratter, and Andrew Youdin on observational and theoretical studies of protoplanetary disks, planet formation, planetary habitability, and biosignatures. Applicants will work in one or more of the above areas, determined in part by the candidate’s interests and skills. The successful applicants will also have the opportunity to join the NExSS research coordination network.

This is a year-to-year appointment, contingent upon pending satisfactory performance and availability of funding. To foster diversity in our community, we encourage applicants from diverse perspectives and backgrounds to apply.

For questions related to the position, please contact ae-postdocs@list.arizona.edu. More information on Alien Earths, NASA NExSS can be found on the following websites: https://alieanearths.space, https://nexss.info.

Outstanding UA benefits include health, dental, vision, and life insurance; paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays; UA/ASU/NAU tuition reduction for the employee and qualified family members; access to UA recreation and cultural activities; and more!
