Job Summary

Involves applying user-centered design methodologies and processes to capture user requirements, create, evaluate and modify designs and prototypes in support of software and web development. Works with all areas of IT to ensure overall consistency of technology implementation in the organization. Gathers input from users at all phases of the design process and ensures that those needs are represented in the product or service being developed. Performs usability evaluations for development teams. May produce specifications describing user requirements and internal structures for product or service in development.

Building on the success of the Health eHeart Study at UC San Francisco, the National Institutes of Health awarded $9.75 million to UCSF for the creation of Eureka, a platform that will enable investigators to conduct mobile and wireless health research in a less costly, more streamlined manner.

The research platform will accelerate mobile health (mHealth) by providing researchers with easy access to a large cohort of volunteers who have agreed to participate in the research, along with a quick, affordable means for collecting their health data through mobile and wireless technologies.

Eureka builds off the innovative Health eHeart Study, which harnesses the power of online and mobile
technology to gather cardiovascular data from study participants through devices such as smartphone apps, ECG smartphone cases and portable blood pressure cuffs.

Applies user experience design concepts, methods and techniques, relevant policies and procedures to resolve a variety of user experience design issues. Works on assignments of large scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Creates working prototypes of proposed studies and creates, maintains, and continually improves Eureka study prototype templates. Applies user experience design methodologies to strategize and create working prototypes for new features. Evaluates usage analytics and study performance metrics to suggest improvements in the software product and study flows. Performs usability evaluations for development teams. May produce specifications describing user requirements and written technical product requirements for any given new feature. Creates efficient internal design processes for working with study teams and developers and manages the design system for the entire platform.
