Title Postdoctoral Fellow in Pediatrics
Specific Title
Appointment Type Postdoctoral Fellow
Department IUSM - Pediatrics
Campus IU School of Medicine Indianapolis
Position Summary
A postdoctoral fellowship position is immediately available to study the molecular mechanisms that modulate cardiogenesis. The lab is interested in understating the gene regulatory networks that modulate the cell specification and differentiation that are responsible for the morphological patterning of the developing mammalian heart. We employ mouse model systems and are particularly interested in how basic Helix-loop-Helix transcription factors regulate heart formation and their roles in congenital heart diseases. Evaluating gene regulatory networks within myocardium, endocardium, epicardium, and the neural crest cells that compose the heart allows us to start unraveling how these diverse cell types coordinate with each other to define functional contraction, conduction, outflow tract, and chamber patency. The position offers a unique opportunity for a talented scientist to work in a dynamic and innovative environment. The lab is well funded and postdoctoral career development to independence is a primary goal of this position.
The ideal candidate should be an inquisitive goal-orientated individual with a strong interest and background in molecular and developmental biology. Experience with bioinformatic analysis of transcriptomic datasets is ideal. Anyone willing to roll up their sleeves and help us answer all of our questions is welcome and we hope you will bring your own questions too!
The Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research (http://www.wellscenter.iupui.edu/) has ongoing collaborative programs in molecular oncology and experimental therapeutics, cardiac developmental biology, diabetes, hematologic malignancies and stem cell biology, cardiovascular genetics and infectious disease and global health.
As the nation’s largest medical school, IUSM is committed to being an institution that not only reflects the diversity of the learners we teach and the patient populations we serve, but also pursues the values of diversity, equity and inclusion that inform academic excellence.
