Job Description:

This position will be responsible for the synthesis and medicinal chemistry SAR optimization of ligands for a number of biological targets including GPCR’s, nuclear receptors and ion channels. SAR optimization will include drug metabolism parameters such as microsome stability, plasma protein binding, in vivo pharmacokinetics and brain penetration. Compound scale-up for in vivo efficacy studies may also be required. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary to thrive in a fast-paced team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities and duties:

  • Spend time in the lab synthesizing, and purifying compounds for the different projects they are assigned too.
  • Registration of analogs, data keeping (1H, 13C NMR’s, mass spec data, analytical HPLC data), drafting experimental protocols for manuscripts and patent applications.
  • Interpret SAR data, and design new analogs based on the data.
  • Keep up with the scientific literature as well as new and novel synthetic techniques that might prove useful in their own work.

Commensurate with experience

Minimum Requirements:

Ph.D. in an appropriate scientific discipline required.  A minimum of 2 years postdoctoral experience. 

Preferred Qualifications:

PhD in chemistry; specialty in organic synthesis required.

Ability to work with other team members in medicinal chemistry as well as with biology and drug metabolism collaborators.

Extensive Ph.D. graduate work in multi-step organic synthesis is required, with good laboratory skills and familiarity with modern synthetic techniques and instrumentation (HPLC-MS, HPLC, NMR, chromatography). Strong candidates may also have knowledge and experience in heterocyclic and medicinal chemistry and/or structure-based drug design. Must possess a doctoral degree. A pending doctoral degree may be considered with approval of the Principal Investigator.
