Job Description:

The Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Florida, is seeking an individual for a full-time faculty position to include research responsibilities in marine mammal reproductive physiology with a particular focus on Sirenian reproduction. The qualified applicant is expected to have extensive expertise related to marine mammal reproduction including semen collection and analysis, functional anatomy, histology and immunohistochemistry. The applicant must display strong leadership skills and is expected to (1) mentor staff, postdoctoral researchers, and students (undergraduate, graduate, and veterinary) in marine mammal reproductive anatomy and physiology, (2) coordinate undergraduate and veterinary student research projects,  (3) facilitate graduate student sample collection within the Aquatic Animal Health Program, and (4) develop and maintain critical research collaborations with private, state, and federal institutions. In addition to research, the position includes teaching responsibilities. The qualified applicant is expected to have extensive expertise in online distance education course development and coordination at the graduate and professional (veterinary) level. It is expected that the applicant will be responsible for teaching and coordinating one online distance education course and one in-person course each Fall and Spring semester with plans for the development and coordination of additional courses to be offered by the Aquatic Animal Health Program.

The successful candidate must be highly motivated, enthusiastic, well organized, able to multi-task, reliable, and able to interact well with others. 

Expected Salary:

Salary is negotiable depending upon training and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Minimum qualifications:  Ph.D. in marine mammal reproductive anatomy and physiology or a closely related field; evidence of first-author research productivity (publications, presentations, etc.); experience with online course development, coordination, and teaching; demonstrated knowledge and experience in functional anatomy, histological and immunohistochemical techniques; expertise in marine mammal semen collection and computer-aided sperm analysis (CASA); deep knowledge of comparative marine mammal reproductive physiology with a primary emphasis on Sirenian reproduction; exemplary background in laboratory management; ability to develop an original research program in the field of marine mammal reproductive physiology; and must have at least 3 years of postdoctoral research experience in a US or European laboratory.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in Florida manatee and cetacean reproductive physiology and functional anatomy is preferred.
