Job Description

A postdoctoral associate position is available for a 1-year postdoc in the Uyeda lab at Virginia Tech to study the evolution of macroevolutionary constraints on the evolution of thermal physiology in salamanders using simulation modeling in association with a Templeton Foundation grant. The work is in collaboration with the lab of Dr. Martha Munoz at Yale University. The successful candidate will assist the PI to develop and apply population genetic simulation models of quantitative thermal traits. Candidate will also develop their own research projects and interests, mentor students, and work with collaborators on the project. Experience with population genetic simulation software, such as SLiM, is preferable, as well as experience working with thermal physiological data. Applications will begin being considered on December 22nd, 2022, with an anticipated start date in the Fall of 2023. Remote work may be considered for qualified candidates.

Required Qualifications

- PhD in relevant field (evolution, organismal biology, statistics, computational biology, etc.). PhD must be awarded no more than four years prior to the effective date of appointment with a minimum of one year eligibility remaining.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in with population genetics
- Experience using SLiM
- Experience with thermal physiology data in a relevant group (e.g. salamanders)
