ACCORDS has an opening for a full-time Faculty position (unclassified) Director, ACCORDS position.

Position Summary

The University of Colorado School of Medicine welcomes applications for director of ACCORDS (Adult and Child Center for Outcomes Research and Delivery Science). The director provides strategic direction, vision, and operational leadership to ensure growth in innovative research methods, research funding, and faculty training and mentorship. The director oversees campus and national education in later phase translational science (e.g., T3-T4), leads a team of 11 faculty, and reports to the Dean of the School of Medicine.

The director is responsible for maintaining a supportive environment focused on customer service, encouraging collaborative research across disciplines, specialties, departments, and schools, and supporting team science among research professionals and principal investigators.

The director secures and manages appropriate and ongoing support and resources to fulfill the center’s mission and programs. The director ensures that the center maintains significant and increasing grant funding from federal and state agencies, private foundations, and local institutions.  The director guides and provides support to investigators submitting center grants and other large multi-institutional grants. 

The director promotes collaborative relationships with internal and external academic partners to facilitate multidisciplinary investigation, research across the lifespan, and worthwhile scientific endeavors. In addition, the director manages and oversees an administrative structure that includes a financial administrator, a pre- and post-awards grants team, and human resources, research, communications, and development professionals.

The director is responsible for overseeing and maintaining excellence in the center’s work while building on the strengths to support expansion. The position requires exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to bring together diverse groups of individuals to advance common goals of the center and the institution. The successful candidate must be a strong leader with a track record of administration, education, and interdisciplinary collaborative translational research, and the ability to lead the further development of the center in all missions.

Major Responsibilities

  • Maintain existing and develop new cores and programs to support major methodological areas in T3-T4 science, including
    • Biostatistics and Analytic Core
    • Economic Analysis Core
    • Mobile Health and Informatics Core
    • Practice-based Research Network Core
    • Qualitative and Mixed Methods Core
    • Program for Patient-Centered Decisions
    • Community Engagement and Outreach Program
    • Dissemination and Implementation Program
    • Research Training and Mentorship Program
    • Education Program
  • Identify and develop strategically important new programmatic areas of translational research, research support cores, and education programs to advance translational research.
  • Support a strong leadership team of core and program directors and administration.
  • Foster faculty professional development in T3-T4 research and faculty rank advancement with strong mentorship, professional development, and training programs.
  • Collaborate with department chairs to identify, recruit, and support the professional development of faculty working in T3-T4 science.
  • Represent the School of Medicine and Children’s Hospital Colorado in T3-T4 science in external activities, including meetings with donors and community leaders.
  • Serve on campus boards, committees, and leadership forums as assigned by the School of Medicine Dean and the CEO of Children’s Hospital Colorado.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) has been established at $300,000-$500,000

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications (Both Ranks)

  • Five years of experience at the Associate Professor or Professor (or equivalent) academic rank.
  • MD/DO with master’s level training in public health, epidemiology, health services. research, or related fields, or a PhD degree in disciplines relevant to T3-T4 science.
  • Extensive mentorship experience, especially with physician scientists as well as PhDs.
  • Previous leadership experience of a research organization.
  • Experience as the Principal Investigator of a R01 or equivalent research program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience running or participating in fellowship training programs.
  • Experience developing and implementing faculty development curricula.
  • Experience running work-in-progress research groups for postdoctoral fellows and faculty.
  • Experience directing a research program with faculty support and training activities.
