Job Description

This "Professional Traineeship" (1+ year commitment) is designed to bring in candidates who wish to learn how to run a not-for-profit organization or be trained as an Executive Assistant in the international education and cultural exchange field. Learn more office/administrative skills, level up your business writing, all while working hand-in-glove to run the organization with the Executive Director.

Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate is someone hungry to expand their office/computer/project management skills and brings excellent communication abilities. Someone who might be passionate about global issues, international travel, has studied/worked abroad, or has dreamed of doing so. This is an opportunity to work with our participants from around the world - whether high school/university exchange students, mid-career adult professional fellows, and ESL students.

Most of all, we're looking for passion for the work we do, which is supporting international participants who come to the US to learn about our culture, language, and democratic society.

Duties

  • Support the office and assist the Executive Director
  • Manage projects and assignments
  • Communicate with diverse audiences (eg., US Department of State Grantees, sponsoring international organizations, exchange students, host families, )
  • Process paperwork for participant placements, write reports, perform filing and office organization duties
  • Plan events
  • Market programs (eg., social media, online, with media contacts)
  • Answer phones and receive guests
  • Provide other support as assigned

Requirements

  • Strong office computer skills and online research skills
  • Some experience in an office environment
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
  • Familiarity with video conferencing software (ie. Zoom)
  • Experience doing mailings and email blasts
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Appreciation for cross-cultural exchange and study abroad

Desired Experience

  • Working at or planning events
  • Bachelor's degree

Preferred/Bonus Experience

  • Experience living, learning or teaching abroad
