The Research Assistant III will be working for the Lewis Katz School of Medicine Center for Translational Medicine with the Gene Therapy/Viral Vector Core team. Under general supervision, performs complex research activities following established methods and procedures in support of a research project. 

Responsibilities include: assisting with various experiments; testing standard research methodologies, procedures, and verbal and written instructions that will include vector cloning, propagation and purification of high titer virus preparations.

The Research Assistant utilizes a variety of research techniques, including sterile cell and tissue culture, use of selection to generate cell lines, testing cell lines for bacteria, DNA transfection, large and small-scale isolation of plasmid DNA from bacteria, immunohistochemistry, virus propagation/purification techniques. Also orders supplies, maintains equipment, assists with grant accounting.  Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in science related area of research and at least one year of directly related laboratory experience An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. 

Required Skills & Abilities:
*Must be able to relate well to other laboratory personnel including technical, graduate, postdoctoral and professional staff as well as administrative personnel. 
*Must be able to communicate well and follow directions
*Demonstrated ability to accurately and promptly record laboratory procedures, methods, events and results in the laboratory daily as the procedures are performed
**Ability to retain numerous details by reference to written notes without repeated oral instruction.
*Ability to handle calculations easily.
*Ability to perform or assist in relevant research techniques, including flourescent immunohistochemistry, PCR, Western blot, etc.

This is a grant funded position.
