The Wistar Institute is seeking a highly accomplished research leader to direct the Immunology, Microenvironment and Metastasis (IMM) Program of its Ellen and Ronald Caplan National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Cancer Center. As one of only seven NCI-designated “research” Cancer Centers in the US, the Caplan Cancer Center has received an Exceptional rating at two consecutive cycles of its Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) review and was recently awarded a 2-year MERIT extension by the NCI. As Wistar is not organized in traditional academic departments, Cancer Center Programs provide the central institutional engine for research innovation, multidisciplinary collaboration and mentoring of junior investigators. Currently, 75% of cancer-related peer reviewed funding and 53% of primary publications in the IMM Program are the product of multidisciplinary collaborations. The successful candidate for this critical leadership position will have nationally and internationally recognized status, a vibrant research program, history of successful collaborations, and strong track-record of sustained NCI funding. As a key member of Cancer Center leadership, the new IMM Program Leader will work synergistically with other research leaders to advance the institutional mission through innovative program development, faculty recruitment, expansion of Shared Resources and commitment to education and mentoring of junior colleagues.

Research areas of interest include basic and translational tumor immunology, genetic, metabolic and signaling requirements of metastatic competence and crosstalk between stroma and the tumor cell population in the microenvironment. The new IMM Program Leader will be recruited to new, state-of-the-art laboratory space in the Fox Tower and will be supported by outstanding vivarium and core facilities, including Genomics, Proteomics and Metabolomics, Imaging, Flow Cytometry, Molecular Screening, Bioinformatics, and Biomedical Research Support.
