Special Projects Officer

Job Description

SPECIAL PROJECTS OFFICER, Research Administration Services (RAS), to take a key role in initiating and managing internal and cross-functional projects involving all aspects of pre- and post-award research administration, including compliance, systems implementation, policy interpretation, operational analysis, and process documentation.  Will play a pivotal role working with the RAS leadership team in identifying critical path areas and coordinating efforts with relevant MIT offices to resolve issues and strategically coordinate improvements to processes and system use in support of the research mission; and work with RAS teams and other administrative offices to identify practical and effective solutions to address changing financial and compliance requirements in sponsored research.  Will report to the director of Research Administration Services.  

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree; at least five years’ progressively responsible experience in university-based sponsored programs administration, including supervisory/management experience; comprehensive knowledge of research administration topics, including proposal process and requirements, academic policies related to federal and non-federal contracts, Uniform Guidance, Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Code of Federal Regulations (CFR); proven track record of success working with faculty, researchers, and administrators from all sectors of campus and with representatives of federal agencies, industry, and international organizations; ability to work effectively toward goals in a complex, diverse environment with multiple and changing demands; excellent leadership, management, negotiation, client satisfaction, and written and verbal communication skills; and management experience with system implementation and support in a research environment, including with research administration systems and financial systems.  PREFERRED: experience in an educational environment and some industry experience related to research administration and/or research systems.  Job #22193-10
