Position Introduction

McHenry County College (MCC), leading IL community colleges in enrollment growth, seeks a creative, energetic, and collaborative individual to serve in a new position focused on alumni relations. The Alumni Engagement Specialist will have the critical responsibility of developing and launching strategies to enhance alumni connections to the College, with the goal of growing alumni support and resources. Working in cooperation with the College’s Foundation and Marketing teams, the Alumni Engagement Specialist will have the rewarding opportunity to develop lasting connections with MCC alum that can positively impact the institution’s future success.

Position Summary

Engaging college alumni is critical to building successful community connections, industry collaboration, and growing funds to support students and programming. The Alumni Engagement Specialist creates engaged community advocates, volunteers, and donors. A high-performing member of the Advancement and Development team, the Alumni Engagement Specialist works to develop relationship management plans and events that identify and cultivate alumni in meaningful ways. This energetic and organized individual ultimately identifies activities and programs/events to specifically increase alumni engagement. This position also serves as a key liaison with the Friends of MCC Foundation and the MCC Alumni Association. Reports to the Vice President of Marketing, Communications, and Development.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

· Recruit, steward, and engage MCC alumni in support of student success
· Develop programs, events, and activities that meet goals for alumni engagement
· Create and execute a communication plan for alumni
· Create and execute an event and program engagement plan for alumni
· Identify, update, and maintain CRM database and repository to house and grow an alumni network of data and contact information
· Grow and engage alumni committee in execution of activities and events
· Collaborate with internal MCC partners to identify and align resources
· Work collaboratively with others (e.g. colleagues, stakeholders, vendors) to accomplish functions and responsibilities
· Assume additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor

Required Education

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution

Other Required Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
· At least 3 years of professional experience in a related field of communications, event management, advancement, development, and/or marketing and recruitment
· Event planning and volunteer management experience
· Relationship management experience
· Strong project management experience
· Experience working with database management systems
· Outstanding communication skills, an ability to balance multiple priorities and deadlines, strong decision-making skills, along with a collaborative attitude and flexible team-oriented approach to working with others
· Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including active listening
· Familiarity with project management software tools
· Highly creative

Desired Qualifications

· Experience in alumni relations/outreach in a higher education environment
· Bilingual communication and writing skills in Spanish
· Experience using CRM and alumni management systems (Salesforce, etc.)
