The UMBC Career Center, within the Division of Student Affairs, aims to empower all students and graduates to create their own success stories. We work with students at every academic level, from first-year students to graduate students. The Career Center is recognized as a valued partner across campus with exemplary student and employer engagement. Our services include virtual and in-person career advising and counseling, networking and recruitment events, career and professional skills education and applied learning opportunities (internships, co-ops and research).

Responsibilities:

The Part-Time Internships & Employment Coach (General Associate) will primarily provide one-on-one career management coaching virtually or hybrid to undergraduate and graduate students seeking jobs, internships, co-ops, and research opportunities. This role is a key player in the I&E team’s mission to provide high impact and personalized coaching; building relationships with students to ultimately understand their strengths and apply in class and on the job learnings to their future endeavors. The candidate will meet with students of all majors and graduate programs in set virtual appointment slots as well as in virtual drop-in times.

Specific duties include:

  • Conduct application reviews including resume reviews, job search strategy conversations, interview prep, salary negotiation help, etc.
  • Conduct virtual workshops as needed and able to support students’ career development needs
  • Coordinate and assist in the communications to students in applied learning opportunities weekly through Blackboard, Handshake, etc.
  • Represent the Career Center and UMBC in communications with students, employers, alumni, and parents as needed
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

This part-time position offers a flexible schedule and virtual or hybrid work.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Requires a Bachelor's degree and one year professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree preferred.

Experience career coaching, counseling, or teaching in a higher education setting or experience in industry preferred.

Salary:
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Hours:
Part-time (up to 29 hours). Candidates that wish to work less hours per week will be considered.

This is a temporary position. Initial contract is for 4 months with the possibility of renewal.
