Post-doctoral Researcher

FAES | Center for Food Animal Health

To support research projects in medicinal chemistry, organic synthesis, molecular biology, pathogenesis, and pharmacology for animal pathogens, foodborne human pathogens of animal origin, phytopathogens, as well as studies involving the interaction of different probiotic bacteria with enteric pathogens in different animal models. This position entails: Designing new target molecules using computational tools (SciFinder/PubChem) and provide multiple synthetic pathways for small molecules with desired physicochemical properties. Synthesis, purification of reactions using chromatography (TLC, HPLC) and analysis using spectroscopy techniques (TLC, NMR, MS) to evaluate structures of new molecules. Collaborate with other researchers in experimental design, data interpretation and analysis and preparation of manuscripts and grant application. Provide reports to university intellectual property office for filing patents. Perform drug discovery operations using high throughput screening with small molecules and collaborate for microbiome studies, animal studies and conduct literature searches of relevant topics and procedures. Responsible for general laboratory management, laboratory safety compliance, writing institutional biosafety and animal protocols, training other laboratory personnel, prepare research reports and summaries, manuscripts, grants, posters, and presentations for scientific meetings.

The offer for this position will be based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
