Position Summary
The Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) will assist Dr. Adesegun Oyedele with gathering and analyzing qualitative and quantitative research data from Mexico’s handicraft producers.

This is a student position open to current UIW graduate students.

This graduate assistant position is funded via tuition assistance. (See work hours for detail)

Essential Functions
  • Assist with gathering and analyzing qualitative and quantitative research data
  • Assist with researching and creating a list of handicraft firms exporting handicraft products from Mexico into the U.S. market
  • Assist with contacting interview informant and conducting case interviews with handicraft producers/firms in Mexico
  • Assist with developing interview protocols for case interviews
  • Assist with writing-up case studies about the business models and strategies (e.g. export market development, supply chain strategies) employed by handicraft producers/firms in Mexico. Minimum of 20 case summaries required.
  • Assist with building an excel file model to compute cross border cost scenarios for Mexico’s handicraft firms exporting products into the U.S and countries in Europe. Compute- Landed cost include original cost of the product from the vendor/supplier, brokerage and logistics fees, cost of inspection, customs duties, tariffs, taxes, insurance, currency exchange, total freight and shipping cost, handling feed etc.
  • Assist with preparing literature reviews and findings from recent international marketing and international entrepreneurship articles investigating the strategies of local small firms/entrepreneurs in emerging markets.
  • Assist with preparing grant application materials for submission to funding agencies
  • Meets weekly with supervisor to review and discuss research assignments.
  • The graduate research assistant must be bilingual – English and Spanish.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications

 

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Research skills, Basic research writing skills, proficiency in Excel & SPSS.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) and Intercultural competence skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

Required Education
  • Current UIW graduate or doctoral student in good academic standing with the University, enrolled in at least six hours in the semester or session in which the appointment occurs.

 

 
  • Doctoral students in dissertation writing who have completed their minimum dissertation enrollment and are on “continuous enrollment” status may meet this requirement with one hour of enrollment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Must be in good academic standing with the university.
  • Enrolled in at least 6 hours in the Spring 23 semester.

Work Hours
For student graduate research assistants, they will receive 3 credit hours of tuition assistance in exchange will work 10 hours per week for a total of 150 hours within a semester.
