Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is a multi-program laboratory applying state of the art science and practical, high-value, cost-effective solutions to complex technical problems to protect the nation. Located in Aiken Sc, at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Savannah River Site (SRS). The laboratory develops and deploys innovative technologies to address some of the nation’s environmental, energy, and national security challenges.

Come join the brightest minds at Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) supporting our global security! SRNL is seeking undergraduate students in the fields of engineering, cyber security and computer technology, material sciences, and science fields, to join the Global Security Directorate (GSD) Team. These interns will embed themselves in all areas of the directorate like, Nuclear Nonproliferation and Advanced Technology Analysis (ATA), and the Nonproliferation Applied Science Center (NASC). The NASC will navigate the nexus of Climate Change, Clean Energy, and Nuclear Proliferation. It will advance nonproliferation R&D to reduce security concerns and contemporize nonproliferation concepts to accelerate nuclear as clean energy and respond to the imperative to turn back the effects of climate change. The NASC will serve as an innovative location to bring scientists, engineers, and policy experts together. The selected students will be partnered with an experienced mentor who will provide guidance and feedback throughout the course of this internship. The student will work independently when applicable but will receive daily input and supervision from their mentor. The mentor will also ensure the student understands the goals of the lab and has a clear understanding of expectations, culture, and deadlines in the group and team. Furthermore, the projects will vary depending on skills and interests, as well as the Laboratory's current needs. The GSD offers paid summer and year-round internships for students in a variety of STEM, policy, international relations degrees. Active areas of research include cyber security, microelectronics, semi-conductors, modeling and simulation, intelligence analysis and support, policy support, virtual reality research, unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) research and development, and SRNL packaging technology. The internship not only provides mentoring, but also hands-on technical experience, and professional development opportunities through a normalized work plan complementing the student's chosen area of study. You will work closely with many of the GSD teams and groups within our two divisions.

The hourly base rate of pay for this internship starts at $15.40, and may increase based on major and class standing.

Other Required Qualifications

Proof of complete COVID-19 vaccination or approved exemption authorization will be required for employment at SRNL.

Preferred Qualifications

Applicants must be enrolled and completed the first year of a cyber, information technology, engineering or science program from an accredited university or college
