This is an exciting opportunity to shape a brand new department. You’ll have huge scope to make your own mark on our research and teaching agenda as you help to inspire and educate the next generation of Chemical Engineers.

Would you love to play a significant role in the delivery of both postgraduate and undergraduate Chemical Engineering programmes? To create a firm connection between chemical engineering and chemistry? To embed sustainable approaches as part of one of the UK’s top Chemistry departments?

Join us as a Lecturer in Chemical Engineering, and you’ll have the chance to work on multidisciplinary projects that combine our sustainability agenda with pure chemistry and chemical engineering. It’s a role that will give you access to world leading facilities, and you’ll be teaching in newly refurbished facilities that reflect our passion for, and investment in, Chemical Engineering.

The University of Southampton is in the top 1% of universities worldwide – a reflection of our exceptional reputation for world-class teaching, a dynamic student experience, and a culture of progressive research where new knowledge is created and used to change the world for the better.

Within our school, Lecturers combine teaching with the type of research and academic endeavours that have the scope to transform what we know in our respective fields. In doing so, we help our students to broaden their understanding and horizons.

With a PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in Chemical Engineering, you’ll have a desire to get involved in the development and delivery of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Your profound passion for the discipline means you’re hungry to teach others and undertake world-leading research. The ability to teach unit operations and separation technology are a must, and you should be a member of the Institute of Chemical Engineering (IChemE) or equivalent professional body, working towards IChemE chartered status, which we can support

It’s important that you can contribute to our research, where our focus is around energy and sustainability, flow chemistry, complex systems, and catalysis and reaction engineering. We welcome international applications, especially if you’re currently a post-doc based at a leading university.

Central to our School ethos is providing all our staff and students with a diverse and inclusive working environment where they can flourish without barriers, and we are proud of our Athena SWAN Silver Award (since 2015) that recognises our commitment to improving equality for women. We welcome female applicants and candidates from under-represented minority ethnic backgrounds. We will help you find a good work/life balance with flexible working hours. We offer an exceptional benefits package with onsite childcare facilities, a contributory pension scheme, a generous holiday allowance, subsidised health and fitness facilities and a cycle-to-work scheme.
