Postdoctoral Associate - Diabetes Research

Sanford Burnham Prebys is a preeminent, independent Biomedical Research Institute dedicated to understanding human biology and disease, and advancing scientific discoveries to profoundly impact human health. 


A Postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Pamela Itkin-Ansari to study proinsulin protein-protein interactions in diabetes.

We are investigating the hypothesis that alterations in the proinsulin interaction network play a role in Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) stress and beta-cell failure. The position is based on our recent studies in Diabetes, ELife, and JCEM.

The long-term goal of this project is to develop a novel paradigm for improving ER function and proinsulin trafficking in beta-cells to prevent or ameliorate diabetes.


Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will be able to generate hypotheses, design experiments, interpret data, trouble shoot and optimize and accurately document experiments. They must be able to analyze and interpret data from different sources and draw relevant conclusions, present results at internal and external meetings and contribute to the writing of reports and manuscripts.

Required skills include tissue culture, expression analysis, immunoprecipitation-Western blots, gene knock-down approaches, immunohistochemistry, RNA preparation, gene cloning, PCR




Education and/or Experience:

The candidate must have a Ph.D. degree in the Biological Sciences or an M.D.




Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:
  • Experience in Islet Biology, Proteomics, and knowledge of R/ working with big datasets and are desirable.
  • Have strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent data presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Possess strong attention to detail, analytical, time management, and interpersonal skills.

  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination required
