Summary of Job Duties:

The Department of Psychological Science in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in Developmental Psychology to start on August 14, 2023. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment with a competitive startup package. Successful applicants must have (1) a PhD in developmental psychology or a closely-related field by the date of appointment, with preference given to candidates with strong quantitative and/or methodological skills; (2) a record of, or demonstrated potential for, outstanding research achievement and acquisition of external funding; (3) the ability to contribute to the Department's teaching mission in both graduate-level training and undergraduate instruction; (4) research specialization in human development at any point across the lifespan; (5) demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and social justice, including the ability to mentor students from underrepresented backgrounds, consistent with our Department’s Diversity Mission Statement (https://psyc.uark.edu/diversity) and our campus-wide strategic plan (http://diversity.uark.edu/); and (6) effective interpersonal skills and a record of collegiality.

  • A PhD in developmental psychology or a closely-related field conferred by the start of employment

  • A record of, or demonstrated potential for, outstanding research achievement and acquisition of external funding

  • A strong commitment to both graduate-level training and undergraduate instruction

  • Expertise in research in the area of developmental psychology (at any point across the lifespan) with human participants

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusiveness, and social justice, including the ability to mentor students from underrepresented backgrounds

  • Effective interpersonal skills and collegiality

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong quantitative and/or methodological skills

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Founded in 1871, the University of Arkansas comprises 10 colleges and schools and offers more than 240 academic programs, nearly 100 undergraduate majors, 100 master’s degree programs, and 50 doctoral and specialist programs. The department is housed within Memorial Hall at the University of Arkansas. Memorial Hall contains four floors of faculty offices, laboratory space, classrooms, and a Psychological Clinic. The Department is also home to a major private endowment that generates over $250K/year to support its research mission. This endowment funds graduate research assistants, faculty research, summer pay for grant preparation, and other research-related expenses.

In addition, faculty have the opportunity to affiliate with related multidisciplinary programs across the university (e.g., Data Science, Data Analytics, Human Development and Family Studies, Gender Studies, African and African American Studies, Asian Studies, Indigenous Studies, Latin American and Latino studies, Middle East Studies) as well as with the newly formed Institute for Integrative and Innovative Research (I3R). This interdisciplinary institute (https://i3r.uark.edu ) recently broke ground on a building that will open in 2024 and will offer human neuroimaging (MRI, EEG, fNIRS, TMS), mobile virtual reality, a sleep lab, and metabolic labs.
