Summary

The Department of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry invites applications and nominations for two (2) full-time Tenure Track faculty positions at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor level in the areas of dental pain, dental anxiety, craniofacial biology, mineralized tissues, regenerative medicine or related foci beginning the Summer/Fall of 2023.

 

The Department of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry (OPD) has a rich history and legacy. OPD is part of a research intensive public university, a premier School of Dentistry, and the Horace H. Rackham Graduate School. The Department consists of two graduate education programs: Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry. OPD strives to provide patient centered and evidence-based approaches to treatment. The Department conducts pioneering research to test treatment effectiveness, develop novel technologies and treatments, and advance basic knowledge of human development and pathology. OPD has a long history of interdisciplinary collaboration between departments and colleges as well as a strong commitment to promoting diversity and engaging in inclusive practices. A faculty member recruited in the aforementioned areas will have the opportunity to closely collaborate with clinical and basic science faculty in the School of Dentistry, Medicine, College of Engineering, as well as from multiple other research centers at the University of Michigan.

 

Candidates for this position should have a PhD or equivalent degree with a record of strong research accomplishments, and have current or strong promise of extramural grant funding such as that from the NIH. Dual training in orthodontics or pediatric dentistry are desired but not required.

 

Responsibilities will include establishing an independently funded research program and achieving external research funding support, didactic instruction of graduate residents and/or dental students, plus service activities. A State of Michigan limited academic dental license may be available for qualified dual trained candidates.  Intramural faculty practice opportunities are available.  Salary, rank and title will be commensurate with experience and training.
