Job Description

We are searching for a Simulation Center Systems Specialist - someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will provide expert production support for the Simulation Center as well as simulation classroom facilitation and simulator mannequin maintenance and repair for technology-related training. The Systems Specialist supports the center through proficiency in simulation technology as well as theatrical production technology to effectively simulate the reality of the health care environment, perform the data capture, and ensure the reliable playback of the educational simulation. The Systems Specialist supports business solutions by investigating processes and new technology that support simulation, understanding workflow within the simulation center, suggesting appropriate resource allocation to support educator productivity as well as fiscal responsibility, and by ensuring that tracking, reporting, and decision support solutions are implemented consistent with the organization’s strategic plan and department goals.

Responsibilities

  • Identify innovative ways to integrate simulation technology into clinical and medical education
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment to support center operations
  • Maintain technical expertise to effectively manage and operate the center’s facilities, equipment, and simulators
  • Assist in simulation set-up, role play, prop securement and arrangement, and other theatrics to effectively simulate the reality of the health care environment
  • Demonstrate mastery of a wide range of technologies including biomedical instrumentation, audio/visual, computer and IT networking, camera and photo productions
  • Consult with center staff and each new faculty/SME user of the center on the conceptualization, design, development, and implementation of scenarios/simulations with a focus on the total production requirements of the session
  • Oversee the use and maintenance of the center’s AV and date capture and playback/storage system

Qualifications

  • Being fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including any booster dose(s) of the COVID-19 vaccine recommended by the Centers for Disease Control when eligible, is required for all employees at Texas Children’s unless approved for a medical or religious exemption.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, biomedical instrumentation or other related field required
  • 3 years’ experience in either simulation or biomedical equipment support
  • Four additional years of experience may be considered as a substitute for the Bachelor’s degree

Texas Children’s has been expanding in Austin since March 2018, when we opened Texas Children’s Urgent Care West Gate, providing high quality pediatric-focused care after hours and on weekends. There are now more than 10 Texas Children’s Pediatric primary care practices in the greater Austin area bringing world-class pediatric services to children and their families. Our Specialty Care Center in Austin includes a multidisciplinary group of pediatric specialists committed to providing comprehensive care across a wide spectrum of services, including allergy and immunology, cardiology, ophthalmology, rheumatology, pulmonology, neurology, and more. Set to open in 2024, the North Austin Campus will be a 52 bed, 365,000 square foot hospital for children and women. The hospital and its 170,000 square foot adjacent outpatient building will be designed, equipped, and staffed exclusively to provide care in more than 25 areas of specialty care for children and women. North Austin facilities include emergency center rooms, outpatient exam rooms, radiology rooms, operating rooms, acute care beds, pediatric, cardiovascular, and neonatal intensive care units, as well as women’s services and a fetal center.
