Position Information
The Department of Natural Sciences (DNS) at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate in the area of environmental toxicology. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
 
DNS houses the Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Environmental Science undergraduate programs and graduate programs in Chemistry, Marine-Estuarine and Environmental Sciences, and Toxicology. We seek candidates whose expertise and work bridge these programs and who how demonstrated experience in impacts of chemicals of emerging concern on organisms at multiple levels of complexity.
Responsibilities
  • Develop an independent research program in toxicology involving chemicals of emerging concern.
  • Mentor undergraduates and graduate students in research.
  • Teach a diverse student population and prepare students broadly for futures in graduate and professional schools. 
  • Contribute to departmental and program self-governance.
  • Teach an undergraduate course in environmental toxicology.
  • Conduct research in his/her field of expertise and publish in scholarly journals.
  • Secure funding from various agencies to support his/her research.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by Department Chair.

Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. at the time of job commencement in toxicology or biology with appropriate emphasis from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
  • Experience involving toxicology of  substances in a variety of ecological systems.
  • Experience in physiological and biochemical extractions, measurements, and analyses.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A record of scholarship as evidenced by publications and experience mentoring  undergraduate students.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Statistical analytical skills.
  • Ability to mentor undergraduates and graduate students in the laboratory.
