The Opportunity

The University of Central Florida (UCF) School of Performing Arts is seeking a 9-month assistant professor (tenure-earning) or associate professor (with tenure) in Theatre, with an internal university title of area coordinator of BFA in Musical Theatre to lead UCF’s School of Performing Arts Musical Theatre program. Instructional duties will include undergraduate courses such as Musical Theatre Voice Techniques, Musical Theatre Styles, Musical Theatre Monologue, Musical Theatre Scene Study, Musical Theatre Auditioning, and various Dance courses. Graduate courses may include Musical Theatre Acting, Musical Theatre Dance, Curriculum Development, Musical Theatre Directing, Musical Theatre History, and Graduate Practicum.  Additional teaching responsibilities will include directing at least one musical during the Theatre UCF departmental season.  Ongoing research and university service is an expectation of all tenured and tenure-earning faculty. Collaboration with faculty, staff, and students in both Music and Theatre Departments in addition to student recruitment is expected. The anticipated start date is August 2023.

Minimum Qualifications      

For assistant professor : An earned master's degree in Theatre or allied field from an accredited institution with at least five years of professional experience OR a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with at least 10 years professional experience in musical theatre directing. Evidence of artistry exhibiting quality and significant professional activity which demonstrates a clear capacity for academic advancement commensurate with a tenure-earning position. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, university administration, and the community.

For associate professor : An earned master's degree in Theatre or allied field from an accredited institution with at least 10 years of professional experience in musical theatre directing. Evidence of artistry exhibiting quality and significant professional activity which demonstrates a clear capacity for academic advancement commensurate with a tenured position. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, university administration, and the community.

Preferred Qualifications       

For either rank : Terminal degree in Theatre, Musical Theatre, Directing or allied field from an accredited institution and experience as a musical theatre choreographer. Evidence of national reputation in musical theatre directing/choreography. Evidence of the following at the post-secondary level: coordinating a musical theatre program, directing/choreographing musical theatre productions, and experience in teaching various musical theatre courses. Demonstrated leadership and administrative acumen, evidence of successful recruitment of students, and outreach to secondary theatre education programs.
