Job Summary:

The Department of Botany at the University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks outstanding candidates for a tenure-track assistant professorship in fundamental research on plants, algae, or fungi in rapidly changing environments, including biological resiliency and/or conservation genetics. Research and teaching at the molecular, physiological, genomic, population genetic, ecological, or ecosystem levels will be considered. Successful candidates will connect with existing research activities in the Departments of Botany and Integrative Biology (iBio) within the College of Letters & Science. Candidates must have a proven track record of innovative and high-impact research and are expected to build a vigorous, well-funded research program with international profile.

Responsibilities:

The candidate will be expected to perform high-quality teaching at all levels, including undergraduate and graduate level instruction. Mentorship of undergraduates in the Botany and/or Conservation Biology majors as well as supervision of graduate thesis research are expected. The candidate must support the department's ongoing commitment to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion. Besides conducting high-impact scholarly research, the candidate will be expected to provide service to the department, college, university and academic community nationally or internationally.

Qualifications:

A minimum of 1 year of postdoctoral research is preferred. Candidates with ability and desire to teach a high-impact elementary level course on plants and changing environments are desired.

Additional Information:

The Department of Botany at University of Wisconsin-Madison has a long tradition in botanical and basic biology research and teaching at all levels from the cell, organism, species, community, to the ecosystem, and also has strong, collaborative relationships with many other biological departments on campus. The Department of Botany shares many areas of research with the Department of Integrative Biology (iBio) and we expect that the candidate will be able to make full use of the opportunities offered by both. Additional departmental facilities include the Wisconsin State Herbarium, a center for microscopy, and greenhouses and gardens. Campus resources include the Biotechnology Center, Data Science Institute, and Center for High Throughput Computing. Internal research support is available from funds provided by the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation.
