East Carolina University (ECU), a public doctoral degree granting institution with an enrollment of more than 29,000 students including over 5,500 pursuing graduate and professional degrees, is the third-largest member of the 17-campus University of North Carolina system. ECU is classified as a R2-Doctoral/Research-Intensive University and is located in the coastal region of North Carolina in Greenville, a rapidly growing city of more than 90,000, which lies ~80 miles east of Raleigh and a short distance to the Atlantic coast. Greenville offers a college-town atmosphere, a temperate climate, and outstanding cultural and outdoor recreational opportunities along with affordable costs of living.
The Department of Physics (http://physics.ecu.edu ), one of sixteen departments in the Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences, has currently 18 full time faculty, contributes to institutional teaching through introductory and foundation courses, and offers a BS in Physics, an MS in Physics with concentrations in Applied-, Medical- (CAMPEP accredited), and Health Physics and the PhD degree in Biomedical Physics. The Department of Physics has strong collaborations with the Departments of Biology and Chemistry, as well as the Department of Radiation Oncology in the Brody School of Medicine. In addition, there are ample opportunities to collaborate with others, including the College of Engineering and Technology, the Brody School of Medicine, and the School of Dental Medicine; multidisciplinary research is encouraged.
There are active theoretical, experimental and computational research programs with an emphasis on biomedical applications of optics, spectroscopy, particle accelerators and ionizing radiation. Major experimental facilities include a 2-MV tandem electrostatic ion accelerator and a radiation instrumentation laboratory.

Job Duties
The Department of Physics at East Carolina University, Greenville, NC invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor or tenured Associate Professor faculty position in health physics or experimental biomedical radiation physics beginning August 14, 2023. We seek candidates to establish a vigorous, independent and externally funded research program in experimental physics with biological or medical applications of radiation. Candidates whose research complements existing research programs in the Department are encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will teach at both the graduate and undergraduate levels and engage undergraduate and graduate students in research. Service to the university, community, and profession is expected.

Minimum Education/Experience
A PhD in Physics or a closely related field is required. Qualifying degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. For appointment as an Assistant Professor, candidates must have a conferred PhD and at least one year of relevant postdoctoral research experience. For appointment as an Associate Professor, candidates must fulfill the requirements for the appointment as Assistant Professor and should, in addition, demonstrate an ability to articulate the salient aspects of the discipline in a rigorous but accessible manner, consistent achievements of high quality in research productivity, and professional service which would enhance the academic credibility of the university.
