Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Research Lab Manager - Boca Raton, FL.

This position will oversee and ensure successful and efficient operations of the research lab, conduct and supervise specific research projects, perform experiments, collect and analyze data, and contribute to the publication of results.

Directly accountable to the Principal Investigator, the Research Lab Manager:

  • Independently conducts research experiments related to a specific research project for which the research coordinator is responsible. Demonstrates knowledge of technical and complex research procedures.

  • Collects, summarizes, records, and interprets data obtained from experiments. Reduces experimental results to publishable format.  Contributes to the writing and/or editing of manuscripts and grants. Participates in laboratory meetings by presenting results and discussing the results of others.

  • Plans subsequent work with the approval of the principal investigator. Conducts in-depth literature searches to establish methods of problem-solving. Establishes develops and evaluates specialized experimental protocols in the lab including troubleshooting, optimization, and quality control.

  • Manages laboratory staff by recruiting, orienting, and training employees.  Instructs students, postdoctoral fellows, and other employees in laboratory procedures.  Serves as a mentor and technical resource to ensure the quality of research performed in the lab.

  • Ensures laboratory compliance with EHS, IACUC, IBC, and other University policies.  Responsible for protocol and SOP development and maintenance. Acts as a liaison between the principal investigator and regulatory officials. Maintains documents and training records.

  • Oversees day-to-day laboratory operations.  Performs and supervises the ordering of supplies, equipment, and services.  Maintains detailed records of transactions in order to comply with budget objectives.  Responsible for lab organization and cleanliness.  Operates maintains and performs troubleshooting and maintenance procedures on complex laboratory equipment. 

  • Animal management.  Responsible for the maintenance of swine.  Partners with Comparative Medicine staff to ensure the availability of animals for experiments. Performs and supervises animal inventory and recordkeeping. 

  • Contributes expertise in purchasing decisions related to shared equipment for the College of Medicine investigators.  Train users on shared equipment as needed.

  • Presents information on research activities and specific techniques to FAU leadership and special guests visiting the College of Medicine.   

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization from an accredited institution and two years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of appropriate experience required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel required.
Experience with research-based laboratory management highly preferred.
Experience with directing, managing, implementing, and evaluating department operations preferred.
Significant knowledge of animal facilities operations and/or their coordination with research labs preferred.
Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of faculty, staff, and students.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, time management and organizational skills are essential for success in this position.

Salary:

$60,000 - $65,000 per year
