The Sheridan Center seeks to provide a place where all learners at Brown University can grow, interdisciplinary collaborations can form, and educators can experiment with different modalities of teaching and learning. Through educational partnerships at Brown and globally, we advance the university’s mission and create teaching and learning communities dedicated to improving learner success and supporting educators’ professional growth.

Responsibilities:

We seek an Assistant Director for Interdisciplinary Teaching Communities to cultivate and sustain interdisciplinary teaching communities by contributing to the Sheridan Center’s programs, services, and publications for faculty and graduate students from across the university. 

The Assistant Director will work in close collaboration with the Senior Associate Director for Assessment and Interdisciplinary Teaching Communities to:

  • Support the design, facilitation, and evaluation of programs for instructional improvement and student success, such as certificate programs, orientations, institutes, and seminars;
  • Consult with graduate students, faculty (including postdoctoral scholars), administrators, and staff about evidence-based teaching and learning with a particular focus on audiences from humanities fields;
  • Contribute to online and print resources to build capacity around evidence-based teaching and learning responsive to a diverse faculty and student body.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Earned doctorate or terminal degree in a Humanities discipline associated with a Brown University department (degree completion expected within three months of beginning position).
  • Required: At least 1 year of experience in educational development (e.g., in a teaching center) in a postsecondary setting.
  • Required: At least 2 terms of postsecondary teaching experience.
  • Required: Experience implementing inclusive and equitable teaching practices in postsecondary teaching context.

  • Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.
  • Strong commitment to collaboration and collegial interactions.
  • Facility with work in a collaborative environment, as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate inclusive and equitable discussions in workshop or seminar settings.
  • Conversant with the literature on inclusive, evidence-based teaching and learning.
  • Highly effective listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong project management skills, such as detail orientation and attentiveness to timelines.
  • Ability to take directions and assume increasing independent responsibility.
  • Facility with digital learning tools.
  • Reflective, committed to ongoing professional development, and open to feedback.

Additional Information:
