The Opportunity

The University of Central Florida (UCF) is looking to hire an instructional specialist in the Creative School for Children. This position manages the classroom and leads classroom activities. Functions include making connections with the children and creating developmentally appropriate activities that help develop their language, social/emotional, cognitive, and fine/ gross motor skills.  

Responsibilities:

Primary functions (in addition to leading classroom activities) are guiding interns and volunteers in their interactions with the children and delegating tasks that need to be completed and interactions with parents. The lead teacher is responsible for supervising the children and implementing the curriculum. They must demonstrate the ability to act responsibly and independently, be aware of safety concerns and protect children accordingly. This individual must have a warm and friendly personality, be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others, be able to relate well to children and adults, and carry out responsibilities in accordance with the school’s educational philosophy and mission. They are responsible for coordinating and leading the efforts of a team unit.  Ensures the safety of the children and the needs of the children are met.

• Create an environment where children can function and learn at their own rate of development.

• Follow the agreed-upon strategy to be used to help a child move towards a happy and smooth adjustment and appropriate behavior. Implements "Conscious Discipline".

• Responsible for maintaining the center in an inviting and orderly manner and compliance with “Florida Statutes 402.26-402.319 and Florida Administrative Code 65C-22.001 Child Care Standards” and NAEYC accreditation.

• Conduct both formal and informal screenings and assessments of children and share with parents.

• Manage behavior in collaboration with teachers and parents, use techniques that are age and developmentally appropriate to promote appropriate behavior.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization from an accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications

  • DCF staff credential.

  • Knowledge of the project approach.

  • Knowledge of National Accreditation Standards.

  • Knowledge of conscious discipline.

Special Conditions

This is a grant funded position and is contingent upon available funding.
