Summary of Job Duties:

The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track faculty position in Plant Evolutionary Biology at the Assistant Professor level to start August 2023.
We seek candidates with a research focus on evolutionary aspects of plants, broadly defined. Candidates working in areas including, but not limited to, evolutionary biology, evolutionary ecology, or the genetics of adaptation and speciation. Candidates implementing quantitative approaches to collections-based data to answer compelling issues in plant evolutionary biology are encouraged to apply. Ph.D. in plant evolutionary biology and demonstrated research accomplishments. Postdoctoral experience is preferred. Successful candidates are expected to establish an extramurally funded research program, teach an undergraduate course in plant diversity and/or systematics, contribute to or develop an undergraduate- or graduate-level course in their specialty, and participate in service activities.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Biological Sciences consists of 34 tenured or tenure-track faculty members conducting research and teaching in the areas of cell biology, ecology, evolutionary biology, genetics, genomics, and microbiology. The department has greenhouse facilities and is also home to the University of Arkansas Herbarium, one of the largest herbaria in the southeastern United States with >125,000 vascular plant specimens (https://fulbright.uark.edu/herbarium).  Faculty also maintain and provide support for shared equipment and facilities including microscopy facilities, an isotope lab, and vehicles for field trips.
