Tenure Track Assistant Professor

Job Description


The Boston University Department of Biomedical Engineering (BU BME) anticipates an opening for a tenure-trackAssistant Professor, pending approval by the Provost, at the intersection of neurotechnologies, data analytics, and cognitive neuroscience. Example areas of interest include, but are not limited to, structural and/or functional magnetic resonance imaging, functional near-infrared spectroscopy, and transcranial direct current stimulation. We anticipate that this position would begin September 1, 2023, or January 1, 2024.

BU BME is a top-ranked department and one of the largest in the nation with 41 tenured or tenure-track primary faculty.We attract exceptional graduate student and faculty talent at all levels and have strong ties to the BU School of Medicine, as well as other top medical research centers in the Boston area. Research activity by primary faculty is over $30M per year. Our faculty benefit from strong infrastructure, nurtured by being one of only three awardees of a Whitaker Foundation Leadership Award and funding from the Coulter Foundation, to translate research advances into new applications that impact society. BU BME faculty lead and participate in several high-profile, interdisciplinary research centers, including the Cognitive Neuroimaging Center, the Neurophotonics Center, the Center for Systems Neuroscience, the Hariri Center for Computing and Computer Engineering, BUNano, the Center for Biological Design, the Precision Diagnostics Center, the Photonics Center, the Center for Multiscale and Translational Mechanobiology, and the NSF Center for Cellular Metamaterials.

Candidates must hold a PhD in an appropriate area, have postdoctoral experience, and show potential for leading an independent, vibrant, world-class research program. BU BME also places high value on excellence in teaching and in community. Candidates will be expected to teach both graduate and undergraduate courses.
