Position Summary
We are seeking a talented and experienced researcher to tackle the challenging science of human disease in a dynamic academic setting. This position collaborates on designing, conducting and reporting of research projects.
The Semenkovich Lab is interested in lipid metabolism and how it promotes atherosclerosis in the setting of obesity, insulin resistance and diabetes. Working in the areas of vascular protein acylation, de novo lipogenesis and inflammation in diabetes, research will include animal care and housing, WUCCI imaging (TIRF, STORM, prep, etc.), chemical compound screening, vascular biobanks, RNA sequencing, phenotyping, mass spectrometry (proteomics and lipidomic), and cell sorting.


Job Description

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the PI on the design, conduct and reporting of research projects.
  • Performs complex analysis/projects according to research protocols, explaining methods and procedures to other technicians.
  • Manages mouse and rat colonies including maintenance of the inventory and performing PCR-based genotyping and DNA electrophoresis.
  • Performs experiments such as qPCR, Western blotting, ELISAs, biochemical analyses. Performs tissue culture experiments. Performs gene therapy/gene editing experiments in culture cells and rodent models.
  • Organizes in vivo and in vitro studies independently as well as collaborates with other lab members.
  • Tests new treatments in in vitro and in vivo models.
  • Isolates primary tissues, including pancreatic beta cells, hepatocytes, adipocytes, and endothelial cells.
  • Helps the lab manager to manage day-to-day lab operations (keeping lab stocked and organized).
  • Assists with grant preparation and reporting. May submit grant proposals in rare circumstances with the approval of the PI, Department Head and Dean.
  • Prepares and submits papers on research.
  • Develops hypotheses to be tested and ways of testing it.
  • Complies with established safety procedures and maintaining required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
  • Manages research project with other institutions and investigators.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Working Conditions

 

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards.�The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent academic track record.
  • Analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of standard laboratory policies, procedures and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate in oral and written form with all levels of personnel and technical publications.
  • Ability to work well independently or as a team member.


Required Qualifications

 

Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent terminal degree and at least three years of postdoctoral experience; or a combination of education and experience equaling 12 years.

Salary Range
$61,000.00 - $110,600.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
