Description
Miami University is hiring three tenure-track faculty in biology. Appointments begin in August, 2023. All positions require a Ph.D. in Biology or a closely related field by date of appointment. Appointment as Associate Professor requires an established record of teaching and research/scholarship. Assistant Professor, Plant Molecular Systematics (Oxford Campus) The successful applicant will teach courses in plant biology, evolutionary biology, or plant taxonomy, and an advanced course in evolutionary and molecular systematics; develop an active research program leading to publications and external funding; advise undergraduate and graduate students; serve as Director of the W.S. Turrell Herbarium and provide other service to the institution. Consideration may be given to plant systematists who use phylogenetic and phylogenomic approaches to answer questions about evolutionary patterns and processes such as species relations, the evolution of key morphological and/or developmental innovations, speciation mechanisms, biogeography, and evolutionary transitions. In addition to having expertise in current phylogenomic approaches, candidates should have familiarity with classical taxonomic systems. Assistant/Associate Professor and Director of The Conservatory (Hamilton Campus) The successful applicant will teach courses in plant diversity, evolution, and/or area of expertise; supervise staff and develop programming for The Conservatory; maintain an active research program and seek external funding; advise students; and provide service to the institution and profession which will include oversight of The Conservatory. Consideration may be given to candidates with • postdoctoral experience and/or prior teaching experience at the college level; • interests in teaching plant diversity and evolutionary biology for biology majors, while also teaching other courses within their area of expertise; • research interests that complement those of current faculty and that show potential for research collaborations with other Miami biologists; • interests in developing The Conservatory at the Hamilton Campus as a facility for teaching, research and public outreach; • experience working with a living plant collection and/or public outreach in biological diversity. Assistant Professor, Physiology (Middletown Campus) The successful applicant will teach courses in general biology, anatomy and/or physiology, and/or area of expertise; maintain an active research program and seek external funding; advise students; and provide service to the institution and profession. Consideration may be given to candidates with • postdoctoral experience and/or prior teaching experience at the college level; • training as a cell or environmental physiologist with interests in teaching physiology for biology majors and anatomy & physiology for nursing majors, while also teaching other courses within their area of expertise; • research interests that complement those of current faculty and that show potential for research collaborations with other Miami biologists.
