Summary

The Pillon Lab is seeking a Research Associate to carry out routine laboratory procedures as directed. The lab's research program applies biochemistry, structural biology, molecular biology, and computational biology to understand the function and regulation of disease-linked RNA binding proteins. Cryo-EM Structures of the SARS-CoV-2 Endoribonuclease Nsp15. Nature Communications (2021)

Cryo-EM Reveals Active Site Coordination Within a Multienzyme pre-rRNA Processing Complex. Nature Structural and Molecular Biology (2019)

Grc3 programs the essential endoribonuclease Las1 for specific RNA cleavage. PNAS (2017)

Job Duties

  • Perform computational activities such as image processing of cryoEM data, macromolecule model building, and structural analysis
  • Help train junior staff and trainees in the group
  • Maintain lab equipment and supplies inventory
  • Document results and prepare them for presentation
  • Assist with lab ordering and maintaining an up-to-date lab inventory
  • Participate in the validations of new tests and applications associated with RNA biology experiments
  • Plan, direct and conduct specialized and advanced research experiments
  • Summarize research findings and publish results in research journals
  • Manage cryotanks and refrigerators
  • Prepare figures for publications, conferences and grants
  • Manage transfers and activities in collaboration with other labs

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Basic Science or a related field. Experience in lieu of degree will not be accepted.
  • Three years of relevant experience typically as a Research Assistant, Research Technician or Postdoctoral Fellow/Associate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three years' lab experience.
  • Previous experience with computational analysis.
  • Previous experience with structural biology.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, prioritization skills, time management skills, and attention to detail.
