The Department of Microbiology, Immunology & Molecular Genetics (MIMG) in The Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UT Health San Antonio) is inviting applications for a full-time, open-rank faculty position.  The successful candidate will be expected to obtain extramural funding to conduct independent research in immunology, with preference given to candidates with an active research program in cancer immunology. They will also be expected to participate in multi-PI research programs as well as graduate and medical education and mentorship. A competitive start-up package and outstanding laboratory space are available, with rank and salary commensurate with experience.

The Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine is among the top 50 medical schools in the nation. The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative group of 19 MIMG faculty working on mucosal immunology, immune defense, autoimmunity, epigenetics of the immune response, cancer immunology, virology, host-pathogen interactions, vaccine development and immunopathology. They will also benefit from collaborative interactions with and resources available from the UT Health San Antonio Mays Cancer Center, an NCI-designated cancer center that has a joint clinical care operation with the MD Anderson Cancer Center, and the Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute.  Multiple NIH T32 training grants are available to support pre-doctoral and post-doctoral MIMG trainees, including the Graduate Research in Immunology and Cancer Biology T32 programs among others.

San Antonio is the 7th largest city in the U.S. with a low cost of living and an excellent public school system. It has a beautiful historical downtown area featuring the Riverwalk with diverse entertainment and fine restaurants.  It is also a gateway to the scenic Texas Hill Country with many recreational options.

Qualifications and application process

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree with relevant postdoctoral experience. Applicants for the Assistant Professor position must have a record of achievement and demonstrate the potential to establish a robust externally funded research program. Applicants for an Associate or Full Professor position must have an established extramurally funded research program with a strong record of peer-reviewed publications and national/international recognition.
