Job Description


The University of Southern California (USC) Alfred E. Mann School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is seeking candidates for a full-time, 12-month calendar, tenure track faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Sciences (https://pharmacyschool.usc.edu/departments/pharmacology-pharmaceutical-sciences-department/ ). The successful candidate is expected to develop an internationally recognized and externally funded research program and contribute to the mission of the USC School of Pharmacy through excellence in research, education, and service.

Candidates should have a doctoral degree and postdoctoral training experience in chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related discipline, with research expertise in chemical biology, medicinal chemistry, synthetic biology, drug delivery and/or drug discovery. Of particular interest are candidates with the strong research interests at the interface of chemistry and biology and with the capability of working in a multidisciplinary department with chemists and biologists. Special attention will be given to candidates with research programs complementing and expanding existing departmental strengths in chemical biology, drug design and discovery, drug delivery and biopharmaceutics, molecular signaling, safety pharmacology and drug toxicology, and bioinformatics, leading to therapeutic translational opportunities in drug discovery and development. Collaborative research and scholarship across departments and schools within the university is encouraged.

The faculty member will contribute to teaching excellence through didactic instruction and laboratory/seminar mentoring in the pharmaceutical and translational sciences graduate programs (MS & PhD), and to selective suitable lecture assignments in the professional, graduate, and undergraduate programs. Inclusive teaching methods and expert use of pedagogical techniques and technologies in the construction and delivery of didactic learning materials is desired.  Qualified candidates will preferably have demonstrated experience or leadership in diversity and inclusion within their prior academic and professional work environments that they can bring to the clinical practice and education setting.

As a faculty member, service to the school through active participation is expected.  Routine faculty administration and participation duties, including attendance at departmental and pharmacy faculty council meetings, assigned committee service, as well as annual review submissions, peer review, and peer-to-peer teaching evaluation activities are components of faculty citizenship. The faculty member should also contribute to personal, professional and scholarly growth and recognition through service on a national/international level.
