The University of Pittsburgh Department of Neurobiology is seeking a Lab Manager. The Lab Manager will be an integral member of a team investigating mechanisms of pain and hypersensitivity. With studies spanning animal models of migraine, visceral pain, chemotherapeutic-induced peripheral neuropathy, post-operative pain, and persistent inflammatory pain, to the study of tissue of patients suffering from these pain conditions. This position will involve participation in a variety of molecular, cellular, and immunohistological methods including cell culture, genotyping and maintaining knockout mice, single cell RT-PCR, ELISA, flow cytometry, protein quantification, western blotting and fluorescence microscopy.

The candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of immunohistological and biochemical assays, including identification of suitable strategies for visualization of targets of interest, verification of antibody specificity, and establishing ELISAs for protein quantification. The position will also include histology laboratory maintenance responsibilities including ordering of supplies, equipment maintenance, and training of undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral students. The ideal candidate would possess 2-3 years of experience in the above methods and have a good understanding of general assay methodology and troubleshooting, particularly in immunohistochemistry, ELISAs, and western blotting.

 

Master's degree with at least three years of experience required. Extensive experience may be substituted for advanced degree.
