Job Description
The
Department of Mathematicsat the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, invites applications from outstanding scholars with excellent leadership abilities for the position of Department Chair.
The incoming Chair will lead current faculty and oversee recruitment of additional faculty to strengthen the department. Priorities include overseeing the expansion of the department’s research, teaching, and service activities; strengthening the faculty mentoring structure; and advocating for the department at the college and university levels, as well as externally. The Chair will coalesce the department around a shared vision in support of the university’s goal of becoming a top 25 public research institution.
The successful candidate will have an exceptional record of highly cited research and robust external funding, and demonstrated and evident leadership abilities in addition to holding a PhD in mathematics or closely related discipline. The position is at the rank of tenured Full Professor.
Tenured faculty in the department are expected to obtain external funding to support and conduct research leading to publications; present at professional venues; teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels in addition to mentoring students and postdoctoral scholars; and provide service to the department, college, university, and discipline. Teaching release is granted for faculty serving in administrative capacities such as Department Chair.
