Position Description: 

We are seeking an outstanding post-doctoral fellow candidate with doctoral experience in epidemiology, genetic epidemiology, neurobiology, or related fields to fill a postdoctoral research fellowship position in the Population Neuroscience Core of the Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer’s & Neurodegenerative Diseases at UT Health San Antonio (https://biggsinstitute.org/ )

The Population Neuroscience Core focuses on understanding the magnitude and trends of health disparities in the prevalence and incidence of AD/ADRD, identifying risk factors across the life-course leading to these disparities, assessing the utility of biomarkers for AD/ADRD risk prediction in Hispanics, and developing culturally and linguistically appropriate tools for assessing cognitive aging.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of Dr. Claudia Satizabal, the selected candidate will join a highly productive team of senior and junior faculty, post-doctoral fellows, and graduate students to identify her or his own core areas of interest, lead publications, work with a multi-dimensional team, submit and win training grants, and be ready to transition to faculty positions, typically in 2-3 years.

The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work with well-characterized population-based cohorts with a broad set of neurological (neuroimaging, cognitive, clinical dementia onset), biomarker (fluid, CSF, sensorimotor), psychosocial, diet, cardiovascular, microbiome, and genomic data. Some of these cohorts include the San Antonio Heart Study, the Texas Alzheimer’s Research and Care Consortium, MarkVCID, and the Framingham Heart Study. Our group is highly collaborative and the candidate will have the opportunity to interact with other groups via national and international consortia such as the Cohorts for Heart and Aging Research in Genomic Epidemiology (CHARGE) consortium, the Trans-Omics for Precision Medicine (TOPMed) program, the Cross-Cohorts Collaboration (CCC), among other.

The candidate should have excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills, and have the ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.


Position Requirements: 
  • A Ph.D. in epidemiology, genetic epidemiology, neurobiology, or related fields
  • Great eagerness  to solve scientific problems
  • Excellent record of publishing in relevant, high-quality journal in the above fields
  • Excellent communication abilities in English; spoken and written
